Core workflow

  1. GPT-MD reads supported ChatGPT tabs from Google Chrome.
  2. User selects target windows, tabs, and responses.
  3. Selected responses can be rearranged and edited.
  4. GPT-MD generates a Markdown preview.
  5. Optional LaTeX normalization can be applied.
  6. Final Markdown is exported/opened in MarkEdit.

Required permissions

macOS Automation

GPT-MD requires macOS Automation permission to control/read Google Chrome.

System Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Automation -> enable GPT-MD under Google Chrome

Chrome Apple Events JavaScript

For the normal Chrome extraction path, Chrome must allow JavaScript from Apple Events.

Google Chrome -> View -> Developer -> Allow JavaScript from Apple Events

If disabled, Chrome may return: "Executing JavaScript through AppleScript is turned off."

Required user state

  • User must be signed in to ChatGPT in Google Chrome.
  • Target ChatGPT tab must already be open.
  • MarkEdit must be installed for the intended export workflow.

Optional managed Chrome mode

GPT-MD can also use a managed Chrome path with:

  • separate Chrome profile
  • remote debugging
  • independent ChatGPT sign-in state

This can help when the normal Chrome Apple Events path is unavailable or unreliable.

  • No Chrome extension
  • No GPT-MD cloud account
  • No Accessibility permission currently required
